State of Origin 2021 Mural - Courier Mail

23 June 2021

Annette and I at it again. This time for Origin! Channel 9 had the exclusive on this one. The mural was designed across 11 panels to fit into the temporary walkway to Roma Street Train station Brisbane. It was later copied and the printed panels where put in its place. I had the opportunity to meet and talk to Justin Hodges and Wally Lewis. Not my usual style, It was a massive effort over a short period with late notice. I wouldn’t recommend. It’s an understatement to say i was a little worse for wear when the cameras showed up. Would have liked to have done this one better. But it’s a prime example of how work suffers when clients dont take artists advice and budgets dont fit the timeframe. This is a job where exposure is significant enough to make sacrifices. But I have to say its never worth it. Doing painful work for people who dont understand you at a less than satisfactory level isn’t worth the exposure. Because whats being exposed is not worth showing and it doesn’t represent you. There were comments made that some of the players aren’t recognizable. And i cant say thats not true. The level of detail required to do so requires better reference and alot more time and money of which i could not get through to the client. Know you're worth. Dont make sacrifices.

Buisness anniversary Painting

19 October 2019

Had the unique pleasure to host a company artwork. I Pre-painted the canvas in black and set it up with a multitude of colours at the party itself in fortitude valley. And then throughout i guided people to contribute to the canvas by doing whatever they please to the canvas as long as it was between the lines. and the outcome was spectacular! Not often i get surprised. Happy 30th anniversary lawyers!

Jugglers Last Saturday sprays.

Sad times. I ran Saturday sprays for nearly 2 years. I wouldn’t be half the painter I am now without it. And its sad that other young artists aren’t going to have that opportunity. But Australia doesn’t show enough support for the arts. And were they do its either in a lump sum or spread too thin. Its only through people like Peter Breen that we find places to grow.
